DESERT FINANCIAL CREDIT UNION AND SCOTTSDALE AZ OPEN TEAM UP TO BENEFIT PHOENIX CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The 2020 Desert Financial Credit Union Scottsdale AZ Open Presented by United Rentals is a week away, and while the tournament features a top-notch field with PGA TOUR pros and some of the great up-and-coming players, hosting an elite golf tournament is not the only goal.

With the help of Desert Financial Credit Union and the Desert Financial Foundation, the Scottsdale AZ Open is able to donate funds to the Phoenix Children’s Hospital 1 Darn Cool School Program, which allows patients to experience a traditional classroom setting while in treatment.

“We share the same passion that the Scottsdale AZ Open has for giving back to the community, and that is one of the major reasons we want to support this tournament,” said Ron Amstutz, Executive Vice President of Desert Financial Credit Union. “We have watched this tournament grow over the last 3 years and have enjoyed this partnership – both for the growth of competitive golf in the Valley and for the opportunity to help support Phoenix Children’s Hospital.”

Entering its fourth year and Presented by United Rentals, the Scottsdale AZ Open features a 54-hole tournament with a field of 162 players, with a cut to the low 50 players and ties after 36 holes. The tournament has a guaranteed purse of $130,000 – with $20,000 going to the winner.

There are a total of seven current and former PGA TOUR players in the field including Kevin Streelman (2 PGA TOUR victories), Kirk Triplett (11 combined PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions victories), Alex Cejka (1 PGA TOUR win, 11 international victories), Joel Dahmen (37th in FedEx Cup standings, 70 in Official World Golf Rankings), and Nate Lashley (2019 Rocket Mortgage Classic champion). Additionally, the tournament recently received commitments from PGA TOUR players Colt Knost and J.J. Spaun.

“Desert Financial has been a great partner for our golf tournament over the years,” Tournament Director Ryan Pray said. “With their support, we’ve been able to grow this golf tournament, offer guaranteed purses and even increase our total prize payouts, as well as being able to give back to such a cool program like the 1 Darn Cool School Program. Desert Financial has a huge impact in the Valley, last year alone it donated more than $11 million to local charities. We are proud to partner with them for the Scottsdale AZ Open.”

The Desert Financial Credit Union Scottsdale AZ Open Presented by United Rentals will begin with the Headline Sports Group Pro-Am on May 11, followed by the three-day, 54-hole tournament, which will crown a champion on Thursday, May 14. For more information visit the tournament website at
